Reunion Highlights
I’m delighted to tell you that our hard work paid off and we couldn’t have asked for a better reunion. Our 40th was quite a success! It was quite wonderful to see everyone again and to catch up with what they’ve been doing, and I believe it is safe to say that everyone had a terrific time.
Reunion Weekend began with an outdoors, Hippy theme get-together Friday night, at the gorgeous home of Carole and Bill West. A large banner, hung between the front columns, proclaimed a Welcome to the ‘67 Mustangs. The setting was ablaze with psychedelic colors, tie dyed placemats and multicolored balloons waving in the breeze. The temperature was a perfect “67” degrees... We enjoyed delicious BBQ, with all the fixings, music from our era (courtesy of Jeff Weintraub, Mike Bayer , Steve Hutchinson and their Band, Sky King) and best of all, we enjoyed each others’ company!

The next morning, a group of about forty Mustangs, plus assorted dates, spouses and visitors from other classes met at the front steps of our old Alma Mater for a guided tour, led by our own Linda Dinwiddie. Linda had researched the history of our school, and shared her knowledge with us as she led us down memory lane... An impromptu rendition of our Alma Mater, Fight song and other East related music erupted from the steps immediately following our class picture, and I must admit it almost brought a tear to my eye! The school has changed a bit, and is currently undergoing renovations, but there’s enough of it left to have conjured back many a memory. This herd of mustangs had a great time romping through the ole marble halls!

But, the main event, our Red and Gray Extravaganza, Saturday night was even better! We gathered at six for a low key Social Hour, where we got to be reunited with eleven of our wonderful former teachers ( Mrs. McLain, Mrs. Goldfarb, Mrs. Clements, Mrs Vollmer, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Marks, Mrs. Regan -now Rashed-, Mr. Duncan, Mr. Rowland, Mr. Barden and Coach Ammer) who were our very special guests. Many of us got a chance to reminisce with them and express our appreciation for their contributions to our lives while we enjoyed our drinks and appetizers. There was also lots and lots of hugging, photo “ops”, smiling and laughter.
The lobby area was transformed into a “Time Machine” and our guests were taken back through the years with displays boasting lots and lots of old photos, memorabilia, the “Last Will and Testament”, a collection of vintage “Mustang Roundups”, old scrapbooks and lots of other items. The main room was decorated in red and silver gray. There was a large Mustang logo behind the band, and Mustang theme centerpieces were on the tables.
Immediately following, we crossed the Mustang flanked double doors into the Dining Room and dined on a variety of delicious dishes. We enjoyed some sinfully rich desserts, and honored our veterans, deceased classmates, and faculty with a moment of silence, led by Luke Prescott. Our “MC”, Louie Grashot led us through the awards, honored our faculty members, shared funny stories of olden days, and got a few “digs” in at Coach Ammer for cutting him off the basketball team. I’m happy to report that our teachers are as sharp as ever. Some are even a little “feisty”! Mrs. Taylor even informed me when I went to escort her to the front for a picture, that she “didn’t need any help”. Way to go, Mrs. Taylor, that’s what we remember!!!!
Music and dancing followed ( to the tunes of the Reflections, who did a really great job), as did more reminiscing, laughing and general “cutting up”... What a thrill it was to see all those familiar faces again! It was like being transported to the good old days, with all the ‘67 Mustangs together again. A small group of us lingered, even after the party, and talked until the wee hours of the morning... What a hoot!

By the way, Judy Briggs had quite a good time downloading everyone’s’ memory cards into her computer. She plans to compile a CD of everyone’s reunion photos, that she will share with the class. Thanks, Judy!
And, last but certainly not least, a group of about thirty of us met for Sunday brunch at the Holiday Inn. We filled up on more delicious food, enjoyed a lot more reminiscing, partook of some (more) picture taking, and all expressed regrets at having to be parted again. We left with bittersweet memories and a firm resolve of being reunited again SOON!
