What’s Up with the Class?

We’d like to know what’s going on with our classmates, and we’re sure everyone else would like to know, as well. So, if you have any news of interest to the class (someone’s birthday, death of a family member, a new grandchild, an offspring’s marriage, a vacation, a promotion, a retirement or whatever, please let us know, and we’ll put it on the website.

ATTENTION PLEASE: Occasionally, I receive requests from some of you wanting me to give you another classmate’s e-mail address. And, while some people don’t mind sharing their information; others do. I regret that I cannot release anyone’s
e-mail information without their permission. I have to ask, no matter who you are, so please don’t get offended if I tell you this. What I will be happy to do however, is forward your request to the person you’re trying to contact, and let them contact you. I hope you’ll understand and not be upset.

CURRENT NEWS:

Discussions are already underway for a 45th in 2012.... We’ll keep you posted!

Our Next Class Dinner will be August 8th, 2007, at the Half Shell, on Mendenhall. Now that we’ve all gotten re-acquainted, let’s keep the communication open! Join us for our Quarterly Dinners, they’re a BLAST!!!

 ********************************************************************************************************************  GET WELL WISHES:

A little birdie told us that Beth Gabehart recently underwent surgery on her hip and had to miss the Reunion.  We hope that she is soon up and about, and that she will be able to join us at the next Class Dinner, in August!

*************************************************************************************** **************

We missed seeing David Bratton at the Reunion, as well! He was supposed to attend, but, as luck would have it, he was fortunate enough to be able to receive a kidney transplant recently, and was unable to join us (those pesky germs, you know!). However, David was undaunted, and sent in his memories of East. They were read (and enjoyed by all) to the class Saturday night. Get well soon, David!!!!

******************************************************************************************

And, dadgum it, we also missed out on seeing Danny Miller! He was also scheduled to attend, but had a little bit of an irregular heartbeat at the last minute. Danny assured us that everything will be fine, and he is making plans to attend out Class Dinners one of these days. We’re gonna hold you to it, Danny!

Travelin’ Man:

Tom Appleton
just returned from an Alaskan cruise and sent a very nice note and the pictures below. He was another one who missed the reunion due to health reasons, but we’re glad he’s back on his feet and having a good time. You look great, Tom!

Fisheye Update! Jeff Weintraub, Mike Bayer and Steve Hutchinson, and their Band, Fisheye, had another successful gig at Reedmeister’s on the 13th of January. Apparently a great time was had by all. As a matter of fact, I got an e-mail from a classmate who was very impressed. Here’s what she had to say:
“We had a great time Saturday night. Some met for dinner – and more showed up at Reedmeisters.  The band was great! I can’t believe that “shy” Mike Bayer is the lead singer.  He did a great job. Steve and Jeff were on guitar. They can really play!  We’re looking forward to the next performance, which, I think, is at Neil’s on March 10. We’ll definitely try to be there”.
We’ll keep you posted on their next gig.
*************************************************************************************** ***************January ‘07 Dinner:
We had another very successful dinner (and a packed house!) in January. Twenty one classmates, plus assorted spouses and guests, met for dinner and, once again had a wonderful time. Attendees included Chet Deaton, Carole Wilson West, Carolyn Ijams Speros, Richard Rosebrough, Adrianne de Moya Nance, Patty and Rusty Kroell, Louie Grashot, Lynnette Goldstein Less and her husband, Milton, and Carol Wade Redden. We also had a “surprise” visit from Kathy Williss Decker, who came in with Dalen Bressack. Others in attendance included Luke Prescott, Steve Solomon, Jo Ann Conklin Plass and her brand new husband, Richard (see below), Beth Gabehart Pulliam and her husband, Steve, Judy Briggs Watters, Agnes Dixon Gordon, Lee Richardson, Bonnie Jackson Crawford and her husband, BC, and David Jolly. We also had some very special guests from other classes: Tom Hubbard (‘66) and Ken Welch (‘68), who joined us and were spotted visiting with everyone. Check out the new pictures!

We also took a vote and, unanimously decided to continue our Class Dinners even after the Reunion is over. The next one will be the second Wednesday in August (the 8th). If you haven’t been to one yet, you don’t know what you’re missing, our classmates are even nicer as adults!

Newlyweds!
Jo Ann Conklin
tied the knot and became Mrs. Richard Plass in December. The happy couple was beaming! Our best wishes for many happy years together are being sent their way.

Rockin’ Mustangs!
Do these guys look familiar? They’re none other than Jeff Weintraub, Mike Bayer, and Steve Hutchinson and their band, Fisheye, playing their first gig last month at Reedmeister’s, on Highland. Several of our classmates attended, and all reported having a great time. Jeff was kind enough to share a couple of pictures and promises to let us know when their next appearance will be... He’d really love for all of his classmates to come see them, so we’ll keep you posted!

Brand New
“Grandpas”!

 Our own
Bob Ranson’s daughter had not one, but twin grandbabies on October 17th! To quote Bob: “My feet have not touched the ground yet”, and this is almost a month after the fact!
The boy, Michael Liam, weighed in at 6 lbs. 8 oz. and his sister, Ruby Hollis, weighed 6 lbs. 4 oz. Check out that red hair!!!!! Everyone concerned is reported to be doing fine. Congratulations, Bob!

And, not to be outdone, Louie Grashot became a grandfather on Thanksgiving Day! His oldest son, Mason, presented him with his first grandson, Robert Hoffman Grashot, and Louie is more than a little proud! Little “Buddy” made his debut weighing 6 lbs. 10 oz. and looking a little like his grandpa (only cuter!), don’t you think? We’re happy to report that “Buddy”, his parents and Louie are all doing fine.

*************************************************************************************** ***************  A great big “Attaboy” to Larry Barnett on being named Attorney of the Year for the US Army Corps of Engineers. Way to go, Larry, your hard work has paid off and no one deserves it more!
*************************************************************************************** *************** October ‘06 Class Dinner: If you checked out the pictures from the July Class Dinner, you’ll know what a blast we had . Well, unfortunately, an accident ruined our October photos,  but although we had a slightly smaller crowd, we had an equally great time at our October Class Dinner!
Jo Ann Conklin Goatley, who has moved back home after being away, and her fiancé, Richard, were new attendees, and we assure you, Jo Ann looks terrific, dimples and all! Other who attended were Bonnie (Jackson) Crawford and her husband, BJ , Linda Dinwiddie, Mary Jo Jobst Wilson, Luke Prescott, Dave Jolly, Chet Deaton, Steve Solomon, Martha Redus Briggs, and her husband, Tommy. We also welcomed a ”mystery guest”, Barbara Mc Nulty Van Dyke, and her husband Deaderick who joined us for the first, but hopefully not last time. It was great seeing all of you!
Our final Class Dinner before the Reunion will be the second Wednesday in January (10th), 2007. This will be your last chance to get a “sneak peek” at your classmates and get reacquainted before the Big Day. Won’t you try to make it? We promise you won’t regret it!
